Make sure your wedding cake tastes as good as it looks with these mouth-wateringly handy hints.
Choosing your wedding cake is one of the most enjoyable parts of the planning process. Not only is it something you can both decide on (your man’s not going to turn down the chance to sample carrot, sponge and cheese cake all afternoon!), they’re also such works of art it’s a pleasure to browse pictures to find the cake of your dreams.
When starting your search, remember the cake is going to be one of the main focal points of your reception, so you’re going to want it to look great as well as taste divine.
If you’re having a very traditional wedding, a white, tiered wedding cake, either stacked or with pillars, is perfect. If you’re having a modern or unusual wedding, you might want something more flamboyant or even themed.
When it comes to decorating the outside of the cake, some brides like to incorporate colours that co-ordinate with the rest of the day, such as pink ribbon to match the bouquet and buttonholes.
However, if you want to go more avant garde, there are lots of fabulous ideas to consider; hand painted pictures using food dye are unusual and eye-catching, sugared flowers look amazing and taste great too or how about using real flowers to enhance a plain white cake?
If you'd like to go down this route, put your florist in touch with your cake designer to enable them to work together. If you don’t have a clue about decoration, take along swatches of fabric, photos of the venue and other details when you have a meeting with your cake designer to help them create the perfect cake for you.
