We all know a little pampering goes a long way but that’s especially true when it’s a spot of Pebble Pampering!
Pebble Sanctuary is a multi-award winning salon in the historic town of Hitchin. As its name suggests Pebble Sanctuary – is a natural-feeling retreat offering nail and beauty services in a relaxed and friendly setting.
Formed by business partners and long term friends, Catriona Brown and Geraldine Ping, the business is based on their combined background of 25 years experience within the beauty industry. Geraldine stayed in management and worked with top names such as Aveda and Esteé Lauder, while Catriona continued with her qualifications which included massage, waxing, manicure, pedicure and nail care and recently qualified as one of only 20 Premier Calgel Nail Technicians in the UK
A dream come true
Nestled snugly over four stylish floors, the Sanctuary is housed in a period property in the idyllic town of Hitchin. Running through the salon, the colour theme combines soft stone shades, pebble greys and warm woods, based on a soothing brown palette, giving a relaxing, organic feel.
It's all in the name
Simple yet effective, the décor is a perfect reflection of the salon’s name. “We called the salon Pebble following a drive out in the country,” Geraldine cites. “Catriona happened upon a pile of pebbles by the road side, and feeling inspired, she rang me and declared ‘Let’s call it Pebble’. The décor was then an easy decision.”
Home from home
Spread over four floors, the premises may sound large on paper, but in reality it’s quaint, cosy and perfectly formed. The soft furnishings have been cleverly chosen to complement the small rooms on the upper floors, creating a homely vibe and maximising the space available, while clever use of lighting helps create a warm relaxed atmosphere in the open-plan downstairs. “We aimed for a ‘home from home’ approach,” explains Geraldine. “And it’s worked very well as clients often remark on the relaxed home-like feeling they experience when they’re with us.”
The ground floor comprises of a post treatment relaxation room, pedicure suite with four pedicure thrones and a manicure desk. The luxury thrones in soft leather are spread across a stylish stone floor.
Stepping up into the manicure suite, the first floor comprises of eight nail desks and two bathrooms. Finally, the top floor offers three single treatment rooms and a twin room. Each is inviting and warm – the ideal sanctuary for facials and body treatments. Sparkling lights, accent colours in soft blues and delicate greens, stylish wallpaper and luscious fabrics give real personality to these perfectly formed spaces. At the other end of the salon, nestled in the basement you’ll find IPL Laser Hair Removal and waxing Suite!
Friendly and relaxing
Fresh green foliage, elegant reeds and heavy mirrors throughout the salon marry each of the floors together and create a flow that makes Pebble Sanctuary a very pleasing place to be.
“Everyone talks about the open, friendly and relaxed mood at Pebble Sanctuary,” Geraldine observes. “There’s always a warm welcome at reception or on the phone, which puts new and existing clients at ease straight away, and the décor maintains a neutral feel so men feel very comfortable here too.”
As to be expected the product offering at Pebble is high-end, natural and caring. SpaRitual hand, body and feet products offer an organic and vegan treat, bringing luxury and indulgence to the menu, in perfect keeping with the salon’s vibe.
Calgel is the choice for gel nails, while Darphin has been selected for skincare and PHD and Australian Bodycare for waxing. Its forward-thinking owners also have a visiting GP offering Botox and fillers, an online booking request system and group bookings are accommodated for, making this business a very flexible model indeed.
Aware of the importance of being proactive in the day-to-day running of the salon, Catriona and Geraldine are ever present on the salon floor and their employees deliver Pebbles’ extensive treatment menu with a cheerful and friendly buzz that this salon is known for.
And with an outlook like that, it’s easy to see why Pebble Sanctuary has not only been voted The Most Loved Business in Hitchin three years in a row, but it’s also been voted one of the top 100 Most Loved Businesses in the UK and Ireland. Adding to its list of accolades, the salon has also been crowned a 5-star Gold Salon.
Innovatively run to be both familiar and pleasing to its locals, Pebble Sanctuary holds regular client events, has a loyalty programme in place and supports a large number of local charities, making it little wonder that the people of Hitchin love the business so much.
Bursting with charm, and renowned for its excellent service and treatments, Pebble Sanctuary is constantly moving forward with plans for the salon to undergo a full refurbishment in the next year. Pebble won Retail Salon Of The Year 2013 beating Harrods Yes Harrods! in the final. So you can be sure to find a great selection of retail products at the sanctuary too.
Thriving and much-loved by both its clients and community, the huge popularity of Pebble Sanctuary is certainly testament to its owners’ vast industry knowledge, their very human approach and fantastic ethos, which has been built on friendship and a true passion for what they do.
