Fun & Games

Hayley Martin and Gary Kyle married on 3rd September 2011 in Chilford Hall, Cambridgeshire

Where did the wedding take place?

The ceremony took place at Chilford Hall Vineyard in the beautiful

gallery, followed by a wedding breakfast and reception party in the Great Hall. We wanted a venue where we could hold the entire wedding in

one place, to keep things relaxed and easy. Chilford Hall fit the bill perfectly: beautiful rural surroundings and spacious rooms.

What did the bridal party wear?

My ivory halterneck dress with lace bolero was designed by Demetrios, which I wore with satin and diamante ballet pumps by Benjamin Adams. My bridesmaids looked stunning in floor-length, taffeta gowns in chocolate brown by Forever Yours. Gary wore a chocolate brown Morning Suit with ivory waistcoat and pale blue cravat hired from Jack Bunneys in Barking and his groomsmen wore the same with the exception of pale blue waistcoats. And our flower girl wore a knee-length ivory, lace dress from John Lewis.

What was the wedding day theme?

Our colour scheme was chocolate brown and pale blue. We designed the stationery ourselves and carried the colours through, from the save the date cards to the invites, menus and name place settings. The reception also had an outdoor games theme, including giant Connect Four which our guests all enjoyed playing and a crazy golf tournament! I can really recommend having games at your reception as it gives guests something fun to do while the photographs are being taken and gets everyone mingling – plus we loved it!

Were there any surprises?

We had a wine tour, which was quite unusual. Also, Gary created a medley of tunes with film of retro dance scenes from 1960s B movies, which was projected onto a huge screen behind the dance floor. The glorious weather was probably the best surprise; after a miserable August we couldn’t believe our luck.

Where did you go on honeymoon?

We delayed our official far-flung honeymoon the week after the wedding and headed instead to Cornwall in a 1967 VW split-screen camper van. We took the top tier (lemon and Cointreau) of our amazing wedding cake, designed by Sue Polhill, and ate it in the campervan! A couple of weeks later, we jetted off to Sri Lanka and the Maldives.
